[AACS] RV: Results of the voting of IUSS Presidential election 2018

Estimados colegas de la AACS:

Les re-envío un mensaje de la Secretaría de la International Union of Soil Science
(IUSS) anunciando el resultado de la elección para nuevo Presidente de la
institución.

Por amplia mayoría resultó electa la Dra. Laura Bertha Reyes Sánchez de la
Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México y, hasta que asuma su nevo cargo, Secretaria
de la Sociedad Latinoamericana de la Ciencia del Suelo. Muchos la recordarán
participando del XIX Congreso Latinoamericano y XXIII Congreso Argentino de la
Ciencia del Suelo llevado a cabo en Mar del Plata en abril de 2012. 

Desde la AACS le hemos dado nuestro apoyo y hemos ofrecido todo el apoyo para el
desarrollo de los proyecto de la IUSS de la cual formamos parte.

Un fuerte abrazo a todos.

Dear representatives of National Societies, other IUSS Council members and Honorary
members,

Let me thank those who cast their vote for the IUSS Presidential election 2018.
In total we received 66 valid votes of which 21 were for Professor Alex McBratney
(Australia) and 45 for Professor Laura Bertha Reyes Sánchez (Mexico).
IUSS was very pleased to have two strong candidates running for the position.

So Laura Bertha Reyes Sánchez from Mexico, current Secretary General of the Latin
American Soil Science Society, was the successful candidate in this election. She
will take up the position of President-Elect on 1st January, 2019. She will be the
first female President in the history of IUSS. Let us congratulate her on this
success!

Dear representatives of National Societies and other IUSS Council members,

The nomination period for the Presidential elections closed June 30.

Having considered the received nominations the IUSS Standing Committee for
Presidential Elections (PEC) unanimously agreed to recommend that
Professor Alex McBratney (Australia) and
Professor Laura Bertha Reyes Sánchez (Mexico)
should be the candidates for this year’s Presidential Election.
Both candidates are of good financial standing as members of their National Society
and their National Societies are in good financial standing with the IUSS.
IUSS President Rattan Lal agreed that the Council shall vote on these two candidates.

Please note that National Members of the Council who wish to vote must be in good
financial standing (membership fees paid), otherwise any vote cast by that member
will not count.

We encourage national societies to consult their members and allow an internal
individual voting to increase the commitment of the members of the national societies
and their feeling of belonging to IUSS.

Each Council member shall send an email to  <mailto:iuss en umweltbundesamt.at>
iuss en umweltbundesamt.at informing the IUSS Secretariat about its favourite candidate
until October 15 at the latest.
