Grassland ecosystems and global

 change: Insights from NutNet, a

globally-replicated experiment

*Resumen: *Human impacts on ecosystems are global, but their effects emerge
from local interactions that can vary across geographical gradients. This
presents a key challenge for scientists: how can we create predictive,
global-scale ecological science? I will describe how distributed
experiments can address this problem by complementing existing approaches.
Using the Nutrient Network as a case study, I'll share insights from over a
decade of coordinating this grassroots effort. This approach has advanced
our understanding of how human-driven changes, specifically increased
nutrient supply and herbivore activity, are altering the productivity and
diversity of grassland ecosystems worldwide.

Eric W. Seabloom, es Distinguished McKnight Professor en la University of
Minnesota. Es experto en ecología de comunidades y de ecosistemas, y su
investigación se centra en la dinámica a largo plazo de los pastizales y
los efectos de la fertilización, las especies invasoras, los patógenos
vegetales y la herbivoría. Es investigador principal en el Cedar Creek LTER
y coordinador de los experimentos globales NutNet y DRAGNet. Ha publicado
más de 250 artículos científicos, incluyendo trabajos en Science, Nature y
PNAS.

transcurso del seminario o dentro de la hora posterior a la finalización
del mismo.
